PRINCIPALS

Matt O’Hayer has been an entrepreneur all his life, starting over 50 companies since his teens. Since the 1990’s they have including Barter Exchange, Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Magazine, Grand Adventures Tour and Travel Publishing, IMS Media, Vital Vacations, Blue Zone Kitchens (co-founded with Blue Zone founder and National Geographic Explorer, Dan Buettner), Vital Marine Services, Vitality Yacht Charters, Tranquility (yacht with crew for charters in the Caribbean), Caneel Purpose Group…and a few more in the works.

In 2002, looking for a change, Matt sold most of what he had at that time, bought a sailboat and became a charter yacht captain and chef for 5 years with his girlfriend (later wife), Catherine Stewart, sailing over 45,000 miles between weeklong charters in the Caribbean and in the summer, New England. Matt returned to the US in 2007 to start Vital Farms.

With Vital Farms, Matt set out to prove that it was possible to produce the highest quality food in an environmentally responsible manner from humanely treated animals on a commercial scale. Vital Farms now has over 300 family farms in nine states producing pasture raised eggs from happy hens. Vital Farms did an IPO in 2020 and trades under the ticker symbol VITL on the NASDAQ stock exchange. 

Matt has been a licensed instrument pilot since his early 20’s and a U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Master-Captain as well as a PADI Rescue Diver for over 20 years. A lifelong vegetarian, in his spare time Matt strives to be an accomplished chef and organic gardener. In 2021 Matt received a type rating from the FAA to fly jets. 

He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Bahamas and the New York Yacht Club. Matt has served as the Chairman of the Charter Yacht Society of the British Virgin Islands, the association which serves the interests of all crewed charter yachts in the BVI's. He is the co-founder and former president of the Organic Egg Farmers of America.

Matt conceived the concepts and co-authored the economic white paper entitled SeaChange (www.usseachange.org) which offers a comprehensive plan that includes the elimination of federal income tax, the implementation of universal basic income and universal healthcare, the elimination of most public assistance programs, and the implementation of an national consumption tax, all while increasing income to the US annual federal budget.

Matt is and adherent to the concept of Conscious Capitalism which focuses on building businesses with purpose beyond wealth, serving the needs of all stakeholders.
